Frequently Asked Questions

What is online therapy?

Online therapy or "telemental health" is a way to provide mental health services via the internet. Sessions are conducted over a secure platform similar to Zoom. Providing services this way opens up clients' options and limits common accessibility barriers.

Online therapy also offers a safe alternative to in person sessions during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes, I offer in person and telehealth sessions. Please let us know what you would prefer when you request services.

Do you offer phone consultations prior to intake?

Best contact is through email. You can request phone consultation if you prefer. However, this may result in a delay to starting services.

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is what is referred to as an "intake". In this session, we will go over basic "housekeeping" items such as:

  • Ensuring policies are clear
  • Understanding how to navigate any technical issues
  • Answering any questions you may have about the process

The main areas of focus of the intake are:

  • Establishing goals for treatment
  • Assessing for any present diagnoses
  • Gathering a history of your presenting concerns and what has/hasn't worked for you in attempting to address them in the past
  • Assessing for any safety concerns and create a safety plan if necessary

It is also especially important that you feel comfortable and feel a sense of rapport with your therapist. Part of the intake process is both the therapist and the client determining if their personalities and communication styles are well suited to work together.

What are common issues/concerns you work with?

I currently offer individual, couple and family therapy. I specialize in work with anxiety, depression, trauma, school challenges, life transitions, ethnic minority mental health, racial trauma and parenting. My practice is LGBTQIA+ welcoming and affirming. See services for more details.

Are there any issues or types of clients you do not work with?

It is important that therapists provide services within their "scope of practice" and areas of expertise. Because of this, there are some areas I do not offer services in, such as:

  • I do not write letters for Emotional Support Animals (ESA), conduct legal evaluations, or provide psychological assessments.
  • I also do not provide treatment for primary concerns like eating disorders, substance abuse, psychotic disorders (ie. schizophrenia), Sexual Recovery Services (SRS). However, I can provide services for secondary concerns related to these issues.
  • Due to state licensing laws, I can also only provide services for people physically located in the states of Washington at the time of the session.

What is your therapy "style"?

I have found that therapy doesn't have to feel so "clinical". My style is collaborative, personable and  non-judgemental, with you as the expert of your life. I am here as your advocate to guide you and provide recommendations.

Theoretically, I primarily utilize strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy, Emotional Focus Therapy (EFT), and Parent-Child Interactional Training (PCIT).

Do you take my insurance?

 We Take Most Major Insurance:

  • Aetna
  • Premera
  • First Choice
  • Kaiser PPO plan
  • Life Wise
  • WellSpring EAP
  • LYRA EAP

If you wish to not use Insurance, we take Private Pay Client:

  • Session Rates:  53 - 60 minute Sessions
  • Intake Rate: $220
  • Ongoing individual Rate: $200
  • Ongoing Couples/ family: $200

If I am not paneled with your insurance carrier, I will work with you on an individualized financial plan that works with what you are financially able to do. Your well being is my priority and we can work together on making sure the session fee is not a barrier to accessing the care you or your loved one needs!

Please feel Free to email with any questions you might have!
